Clarissa lives in Richmond where she works as a high school English teacher in Chesterfield County Public Schools and as a part-time yoga instructor with American Family Fitness. She began writing poetry in her early teens. Some of her favorite influences are Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda, Sylvia Plath, Rita Dove, Elizabeth Bishop, Seamus Heaney, Marianne Moore, Dylan Thomas, Robert Frost, Erin Belieu, Adrian Matejka, Kevin Prufer, Cate Marvin, Robert Lowell, and many more. In 2018, she received her MFA in Poetry from Lesley University located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Coordinating for Poetry Out Loud and WriteNow contests and researching Culturally Responsive Teaching practices with Virginia Commonwealth University's MERC program are some of the ways she stays involved with the Richmond, Virginia arts and culture communities.
